Does it seem like in the last three years religious tensions are rising and people are killing each other more over God? Well, of course it does.
But it turns out it’s not just the fault of our 24/7 news cycle. Such incidents are actually on the rise according to the Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life survey done between mid-2009 to mid-2010.
Pew describes it as a “rising tide of restrictions.” Restrictions included social actions like terrorism as well as government interventions. The U.S. was no exception to the rise. The study noted prison inmates that were prevented from practising their faith, limits on permits for religious buildings increased and there was “a spike in religion-related terrorist attacks.”
