Anyone can see that being over 70 has got to be one of the most difficult and intense periods in life. Few seem to shine a light on life’s last 1 or 2 decades. We might blame Western culture’s focus on youth, consumerism and work, but we could as easily blame our collective reluctance to embrace our mortality.
These realities of the human condition, death and insignificance, catch up with all of us when we take time to be still, but most of us avoid stillness. This stillness is forced upon us in old age. Nothing brings stillness and it’s unpleasantness to the forefront like aging out of the “go around” game of society.
